One day I sat down and started thinking about death.  Cheery, no?  It’s not something I think about often, but when I do I try to puzzle it out.  I get nowhere, but I find it fascinating and wonder if it is really the end.  If not, can Death tell us something?

I wrote from the point of the view of the protagonist minutes before Death will take him away.  The old man has already decided to finish his last hours at the graveyard in the hopes to puzzle out what Death has to offer.  Death questions the old man, he answers, then Death comments again. I used this method to try and create a mildly surreal atmosphere as I alternate the conversation between the old man’s thoughts. Somehow, moments before he passes, he finds the answers he was looking for.
