About Doppelganger’s "I Am Writing a Short Story":

The character Doppelganger is by far the ‘funnest’ of them all.  While I do follow rules in writing Doppelganger flash fiction, the style is completely different from any other form of writing I do.  Doppelganger allows me to write satire, the absurd or just plain nonsense in a style that other forms of writing cannot offer me. Writing from his perspective gives me more ample opportunity to use phrases that would otherwise be impossible in regular prose.  Doppelganger is as much as exercise as it is an examination of subjects taken to the extreme.

            What I like about Doppelganger is how I can see him in my mind’s eye.  A tangible shadow that bursts into a room, projecting his own shadow and tormenting his other self with absolute nonsense.  The simple stark lines of his image in my mind is juxtaposed with his needlessly complicated onomatopoeic speech.

            This piece I wrote very quickly.  I think the writing of first draft took me about as long it took to bang my fingers on the prattle-box.  The subsequent four edits were done quite quickly, and I stopped once Doppelganger’s version of onomatopoeia was getting out of control.  Expect more from this cheeky shadow in a shadow.
