What is the sanctity of life? Is it simply ‘do no harm’, or should it also include ‘do not manipulate’? Certainly, for Doppelganger this is of no concern as he splices an animal with an inanimate object to create something new and useless. But what if he had created something new and useful? For some it’s equivalent to acting like God, for others it is simply science. For me, it is neither of those.
Since I can provide no definition for God, it is not a question I pose. To be honest, I can’t define science either, but at least I can see its concrete, technical aspects. So, what does it mean to blend these two items together; the incomprehensible concept of God and the comprehensible subject of technology? This is what this skit is about. Through the frivolous world of Doppelganger, the shadow has created a monstrosity because in his eyes it will make his life easier. This is a moral dilemma that many of us ask ourselves about genetic engineering. I personally cannot answer this moral dilemma because of another nagging question; unbeknownst to us, has this genetic manipulation already happened long before?
