The idea came in two different ways, but I’m not sure how they blended in my mind.  Part of the idea came from a mountain walk with my sister.  Before reaching the top of La Pania della Croce, you need to walk through a forest of beech trees and the idea of resting in the shade is quite inviting.  But there was something else that created this story, an elusive memory of sharing dreams in the book The Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb (Margaret Astrid Lindholm Ogden).  I think the second part of Dream Tree came from Fitz and Nosy, but it may have been from some other part of the book.  I plan on trying out similar exercises by opening up to a random page and seeing what it will inspire me to write. But for now grazie alle regine, Pania e Robin!
