Planet Forefather is my first flash fiction series and it is the prototype for (so far) three others to follow.  It is organized in ten chapters and each week I will publish a chapter while I work with Aurora to develop the graphic novel.  I’m not sure if anything else like this exists, but with any luck the graphic novel will be available for purchase in a couple of months and only time will tell if this style of fiction will find an audience.

The idea to write flash fiction as a series came to me after I wrote a short sci-fi piece (Sacrifice in a Flash, yet to be published) and felt like it could continue.  I sat down to expand on it and instead I wrote the first chapter of Planet Forefather.  I’m not absolutely sure how my fingers wrote something contrary to my brain, but considering my inspiration was the scholarly works of Mauro Biglino, I think he was in the back of my mind when I decided to write.  The importance of his research is such that I also used it for developing aspects of The Demon-on-Stilts.  Long story short, I zipped through the first chapters very quickly and finished the rough draft in about a week of late nights.

The most interesting characteristic of Planet Forefather is how I imagined the film-like aspect of the story as I wrote it.  I could see the characters quite well and as I thought about publishing the series, I remembered how Charles Dickens included drawings in his books.  I liked the idea, but since I was writing a flash fiction series, I decided I would do something different.  So, my first Flash Fiction Series Graphic Novel is in the works!

What I loved about writing this is my use of technology.  I think I have some pretty novel ideas for sci-fi, but a couple of them are actually just a spin on some very, very old technologies.  I’ll expand over future blog posts.

Long Live the Word Plow!

It worked! After forcing myself to write utter rubbish, slowly some decent ideas began to form. I had to do quite a bit of deleting the first morning, but by the afternoon I was rolling. Two days ago
