I must admit, before I decided to sit down and write the origins of the double bass, I never thought I would have written a fable. I had no idea how a fable was written, if a moral was really necessary, and I didn’t even have the basic knowledge to know if all the characters are supposed to be anthropomorphic animals, or in my case, a dragon. But the story came so quickly, and it was so much fun to write that I really didn’t care about ‘the rules’.
The story is simple. Sing-Song has a dream and a desire to learn and he makes it happen. He meets Molly as a fledgling, and generations later he meets her granddaughter Emma while he is still a fledgling. He loves ‘song’ so much that he travels all over the Lands of Nod to spread his bassy music. Thanks to his sonorous efforts, Molly convinces a luthier to create the double bass for all of humanity, or “Nodanity”.
What else can I say? I love the sound of the bass, be it electric, acoustic or classical. When I looked up the origins of the double bass online, I found conflicting information with no agreement as to how it was first created. So I solved that problem myself through Sing-Song.
