Making Writer’s Block Scream Uncle

Yes, it can be done. You can put writer’s block in an armbar and kick it out of the room.


I was unable to make headway in my revision until I stopped for a couple of days and wrote pieces of flash fiction in my Steampunk Stories series. Though I can’t say that any of the ideas from flash fiction actually made it into my draft, just the act of writing something fun gave me the courage to face those tough parts in my novel.


I also decided to reread parts of books that I liked and disliked. Evaluating the prose and execution of other writers helped me tackle the frustrating block I had regarding my own ideas vs execution. Though I can’t say I quite nailed it, I was able to make improvements being in a different state of mind. The revision was no longer something I had to do, it became something I wanted to do.
