Steampunk Inspiration

One thing that I’ve learned during my writing journey is that inspiration can become a death knell for the creative process. If I actually waited to be inspired before sitting down to write, my output would be a fraction of what is right now. Ideas may come and go, but sitting down and pounding on the keys is the only way I can crank out between 1000 to 3000 words a day.

However, every once in a while, a helping hand in the form of inspiration is appreciated. In the past couple of months, I’ve met several times with the cosplay group Semplicemente Steampunk and their passion is a spark. Their creativity is astounding. Much of what they wear and many of their props are handmade using reclaimed materials. Spending time with them has given me ideas for pieces of flash fiction (Steampunk Stories) and some key elements for volume II of the graphic novelette Steampunk Blues.

This morning as I write out some of their ideas, I consider myself lucky. Tomorrow when I write I will be alone with my own ideas. And if I have no ideas I can always count on my fingers to do the work for me. I just need to remember to sit down in that chair.

Long Live the Word Plow!

It worked! After forcing myself to write utter rubbish, slowly some decent ideas began to form. I had to do quite a bit of deleting the first morning, but by the afternoon I was rolling. Two days ago
