Defeated by the Cold

I’m forced to give up on the second piece of ‘cold’ flash fiction. I simply can’t write it as a single piece. The plot just screams to be a flash fiction series, but now is not the time to add another one as “Steampunk Airships” is closing in on the end of the first volume.

What does it mean for me not to have been able to complete the second piece of flash fiction? At first, I was rather frustrated that I couldn’t hammer it into the small shape that I wanted. Then I panicked thinking what this could mean for future pieces of flash fiction. Have I already run out of ideas? Have I hit a wall with my technical abilities?

This morning I was finally able to think a bit more clearly about it. Sometimes writing just doesn’t go as planned. Ideas are plentiful, so realistically it’s impossible to run out of things to write. Technical ability is a more complicated situation. I probably am stuck at a plateau regarding flash fiction, but that doesn’t mean I can’t continue to write and look for ways to improve. And the only way I can think of to improve is to keep writing.

Saturday something will be published!
