Writing Friend

I now have a writing friend thanks to the writing class I took in November! She’s a brilliant mind, ready to propose writing exercises in order to hone our skills. It’s interesting because she propels me to write about things that I would never have thought to write about. Or perhaps the exercises oblige me to tackle subjects that I don’t want to write about. In either case, her ideas will make for better writing.

Her prose is very different from mine. I would describe it as an introspective, diary style of writing. Low on descriptions, high on soul-searching. In one of the writing exercises, I even tried to mimic her approach. My prose didn’t change much, but my thought process did. These new experiences are already having a positive impact on my writing.

Will any of these exercises be published? Most certainly. You’ll know which ones when you read ‘exercise from my writing friend Roberta’ at the end of the piece of flash fiction.
